This hanko is made of amber, called Kohaku (琥珀) in Japanese, and is a symbol of health and timelessness. It was used in greek medicine, and in China is was burned during festivals to create “artificial musk,” which gives off a distinct pine aroma.
Strangely enough, the English word “Amber” seems to have come from the Arabic “Ambar,” which refers to ambergris. Ambergris is a waxy product made by sperm whales, and is a prized ingredient in perfumes.
Get your surname carved in amber, and it will become an heirloom to pass down to future generations.
Amber is a gorgeous, ancient material infused with light and love. Admired for its color and beauty since neolithic times, amber is made of fossilized tree sap and is one of a few natural gemstones made by a living being. Amber is often found in jewelry, as its translucence warmly filters light like a gemstone.
Our amber hanko are all natural, and each one has a unique color pattern that makes your hanko one of a kind.
