World Hanko Registration Center

Register your hanko with the official World Hanko Registration Center, and ensure the authenticity of your stamp ownership

Hanko, the Original Multi-Factor Authentication

For a very long time, stamping has been the official way Japanese artists, warriors, courtesan, businessmen, and ordinary folks have signed their art, certificates, letters and documents, and this system is so engrained in Japanese society, that your Jitsu-in, your most important and powerful hanko, is registered with the local government. The government issues verification certificates to stamp holders to certify the person making the impression is the proper owner of the stamp.

This system, which protects and authenticates your inkan in Japan, does not exist outside of Japan, so we have created the World Hanko Registration Center to offer that service to Hanko Square customers worldwide.

Hanko Registration Recommended For:

Artists wanting to protect their original pieces and provide extra providence to their buyers.

Martial Arts Instructors wanting to authenticate their certificates and protect their dojo’s reputation

Anyone who wants to protect their unique hanko stamp against fakers and forgeries.

Protecting and Authenticating your stamp is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

You can choose to register your hanko at the time of purchase for a 20% discount, or you can register a hanko you already own here.

Once your hanko is registered with the World Hanko Registration Center, you are eligible to request verification certificates.

You will receive your verification certificates on special copy-proof paper. Your certificates can be paired with your artwork, calligraphy work, or martial arts certificates that bear your stamp, so as to verify the impression was made by the official stamp owner.

Disclaimers:

The World Hanko Registration Center is a private entity, and is not a governmental agency. We do not claim the same level of authority as a municipal office. Registering with us does not confer the official status of jitsu-in to your hanko in Japan; you will still need to register with your local municipality if you need a jitsu-in.

The maximum liability of any claim against the veracity of a WHRC certificate is the value of the registration itself: 3,000 Japanese yen.

To avoid abuse of the Hanko Registration System, we are only able to register hanko purchased directly from Hanko Square online, or Hankoya21 stores in Japan. Only the original owner may register their hanko.

If you wish to transfer ownership of your registered hanko such as to pass on an heirloom or to choose a successor for your martial arts dojo or organization, please use the contact form on this page to get in touch.
