Description
Traditionally, personal hanko are round, and square hanko were for special uses, like artists, organizations, businesses and important matters. Even today, business hanko sets include a “kaku-in,” which means “square stamp,” and bears the name of the registered corporation. Kaku-in are usually used as corporate seals for general purposes such as proof on receipts or invoices, they can also feature the names of stores, trade names, or pen names like on receipts, invoices, or to identify the artist of a piece of calligraphy or other artwork. Because it is square, these seals look like Rakkan-in: special hanko for artists and calligraphers, which are hand-carved from soft qingtian stone.
NOW, your hanko design is only limited by your imagination and the physical ability of our high-precision carving techniques. Instead of submitting your name and letting us come up with a design based on the characters, you can design your own logo and submit your own design for us to create a hanko carved to your exact specifications.
Use your own design, logo, or personal mark to match your personal or business identity with a high degree of precision. Please note that you must submit your design as you want it carved into your hanko. If you need design services, please contact us for a consultation.
Please Read Before Ordering:
Please note that hanko are traditionally used on paper. On fabric, canvas, or other textured/absorbent surfaces, the impression may appear less sharp or legible.
Due to the physical limits of the materials and carving tools, please keep the following in mind. Thank you for your understanding.

#1 We can only carve hanko in square or round shapes. If you desire a different shape we will need to add a border
Designs without a “border” can cause the sides of the hanko to crack or get damaged during engraving. It can even lead to the hanko breaking, so we do not recommend them.
For round hanko, we engrave round shapes; for square hanko, we engrave square shapes.

These are acceptable designs. Even if it’s a hexagon, it’s a negative design where the shape appears white inside of a solid (red) circle. Alternatively, positive designs with a border are also acceptable.
#2 Lines that are too fine (detailed or thin) cannot be carved

#3 Letters that are too small cannot be carved legibly and can get damaged easily.

Sizes smaller than 2m are likely to cause damage or collapse. As a rule of thumb: (the 2mm is for text. 0.5mm is for line thickness)

- Text should be a minimum of 2mm.
- Lines should be at least 0.5mm thick.
- For positive designs → depending on the material, fine lines or small characters may break during the finishing stage.
This is especially true for wood-based materials, which are prone to cracking. - For negative designs → lines that are too thin won’t transfer clearly, and small characters may become smudged.
Even if they are visible initially, they can get clogged and become unreadable over time with use.
#4 Designs with a broken outer border, missing or misaligned sections cannot be carved.

As explained above borderless designs can damage the sides and are not recommended.
#5 Hanko are single color stamps, like simple woodblock prints. We cannot accept files that have designs that use more colors than positive and negative space

#6 Blurred or smudge effects (like the brush effect below) can be very difficult to reproduce in carving

#7 Low resolution images are difficult to carve. Please ensure your image is high quality
