Grown in the cold of northern Japan, the Japanese birch in this hanko is infused with a phenol resin under extremely high pressure and temperatures to create a material that is several times stronger and harder than untreated wood. Thanks to the resin, imperfections and any inconsistencies in the wood are completely smoothed out to create a solid material from which we turn the hanko. Incredibly hard and durable, you can rest assured that each impression will be clean and precise.
The beautiful birch woodgrain is brought to life by the treatment: the warm pattern seems to glow from within, blessing your hanko with a life of its own. Your Saika Hanko will never lose its luster, ensuring a lifetime of faithful service.
We took the highest quality Japanese birch from northern Honshu and Hokkaido and used extreme pressure and heat to infuse it with phenol resin. The resulting material, called Saika, has the beauty and warmth of petrified wood, but the hardness and durability of a gemstone.
Don’t forget to pick up a case and inkpad!
