This is a lacquered pair of chopsticks, beautiful and practical. Handmade with love in Tohoku, the region recovering from the 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami.
Using a technique called Tsugaru-karanuri, lacquer is repeatedly applied, scraped off, and polished in a long process that gives the chopsticks its unique textured and colourful finish.
Powdered abalone shell is mixed in with the lacquer, giving another dimension to these beautiful chopsticks.
